SPOKE Award, Comedy Night Fundraiser, Polar Plunge, District Grant Update and more discussed at Stoneham TV on January 21

Meeting was called to order at 12:15pm
 
Guests: Peter Majane, Peter Argiros (Fitness Together-Melrose)
 
Carolyn reminded everyone of the World Peace Dinner at Montvale Plaza is being held on February 5th at the Montvale Plaza
 
Carolyn also proposed to the members a new member activation activity called the “SPOKE” award. This award would be comprised of 6 required activities, for each of the six spokes in the Rotary Gear.

Each new member would be expected to achieve all six spokes within their first 6 months of membership to qualify for the award.

1. Serve as a greeter
2. Maintain perfect attendance for 10 weeks (including makeups)
3. Work on Club Project
4. Serve on Club Committee
5. Give a classification talk
6. Sponsor a new member

In addition the member could achieve “Bronze Spoke” status by becoming a Paul Harris sustaining member. Other activities could be substituted for these such as attending a Board meeting. New members would receive recognition and a certificate at a meeting. Carolyn is open for ideas and suggestions on this.

Transitioning member Gordon has agreed to volunteer with Mark Jawitz’s International Service committee

Comedy Night is being planned for late Feb/Early March. Amy will let the Club know when the event is booked. Proceeds from the comedy event will support the Stoneham Youth Football and Cheer

Su Mansur has announced that we have received the District Grant and that the work at the Senior Center can now commence.

Bob Lusardi located some old Club “memorabilia”. The members were asked if they wanted to display this in a case.
 
Peter Majane spoke to the Club and reminded everyone of the Polar Plunge upcoming.
 
The District Conference will be held on May 2nd at the Portland Westin Hotel. Discount rates are available if you register by Feb 1.
 
RYLA held its kickoff meeting recently. The Club will sponsor up to 5 students this year.
 
Dave Gardner thanked everyone who donated to his Polar Plunge challenge and reminded everyone that they can still plunge of pledge. He has raised nearly $2900 to date.

Guest Speaker Amy Palmerino showed a short video depicting the services provided at Stoneham TV. She also handed out a flyer regarding an Organizational and Business Communications workshop that is upcoming

Carolyn asked for a membership recruiting event to be planned in March
