Rotary Club of Stoneham Receives Rotary Citation

On January 12, 2021, Immediate Past District Governor Joan Arsenault presented the Rotary Club of Stoneham with a Rotary Citation. Our club, under the leadership of Adam Rodgers achieved a variety of goals and exceeded the minimum level required with an additional three goal. There were accomplishments in public image, membership development, community service, Rotary Foundation giving, and youth programs.

Out of 49 clubs in the district, there were only 9 that received the Platinum Level Citation.

Rotary, and life in general, have been difficult during the pandemic, but our club recognizes that we continue to fulfill projects that make Stoneham a better place for all of its residents. We also recognize the many other non-profits, advocacy groups, businesses and individuals who contribute is so many ways, day in, and day out.

2017 Swing for Scholarships
Posted by Dennis O'Hara
Each May, the Rotary Club of Stoneham visits Stoneham High School to review the applications of graduating seniors hoping to earn a scholarship that will help fund their continuing education.  We read about the students’ families, about their volunteer efforts, about their hopes and dreams for achieving their goals.  And each year, we pick two students to receive $2500 Rotary scholarships – and while that will certainly not cover their tuition, it will help buy the books, computers and lab supplies they need to complete their studies for the first year of college.

Our members work throughout the year to raise the funds necessary to provide those scholarships.  This year, we are hosting our 3rd Annual Swing for Scholarships, and we hope that you’ll want to be part of a really fun event that benefits our community’s young people.

Join the Stoneham Rotary Club on Saturday, September 30 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM for Swing for Scholarships 2016, an adult mini-golf social generously hosted by Hago Harrington’s.  Foursomes or individuals will join us for an evening of fun, cocktails, food and mini-golf.

Meet Your Stoneham Rotary Club!

Introductory Social

What would you think about an organization that provides scholarships to Stoneham high school seniors, polio vaccinations to children in third-world countries, the beautiful and well-used Gazebo on the Town Common, and assistance to local organizations that help senior citizens, veterans, children, and needy families? Do you want to know more?

The Stoneham Rotary Club invites you to a social at Montvale Plaza on Tuesday, June 20 from 6:00-8:00PM. Enjoy hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar while speaking with members of the Stoneham Rotary in an informal setting. Find out how you can become involved in Rotary's many charitable endeavors, and how Rotary can help your cause!

There is no cost to attend, but RSVP is required. Please click here to sign up. We hope that you can join us on June 20!

Support The 2017 Polar Plunge

It's time to get serious about the Polar Plunge! We need to pledge our support now to Craig's and Dave's plunges.

Dave Gardner and Craig Celli have signed up to represent our club in the plunge. Click here to pledge your support for Dave’s plunge. Click here for the link to support Craig’s plunge. And, you can sign up for the plunge yourself! Click here to visit Mobile Cause and click Become a Fundraiser.

When: February 4, 2017  11:00 AM

Where: Cape Ann Motor Inn, Gloucester

This is our chance to help the children of the world by helping to fund polio eradication efforts. In 1988 there were 350,000 new cases of Polio worldwide. Through October 2016 there have only been 27 new cases. The goal of Rotary and its partners is to completely eradicate the polio virus. Without the complete eradication the virus could infect 100,000 within 10 years.

The members of the 47 clubs in our District have come together over the last several years for our annual Polar Plunge event at Long Beach. These members and supporters have made a significant statement of caring for the children of the world.

Thank you for supporting this year’s Polar Plunge!
Personal Addiction Story

Addiction Crisis Addressed at Recent Meeting

The Rotary Club thanks Pierce Aliberti for his presentation to our club on November 8. Pierce shared his powerful and inspirational story of addiction, recovery, and hope. Since achieving sobriety, Pierce has dedicated his life to helping others overcome their addictions, including plans to open a sober safe house for those seeking recovery.

Addressing the addiction crisis in our community is one of the most important focus areas of our club. Members in attendance at the meeting heard a personal account of this young man's struggle, and came away with a new appreciation of the work that we do to assist the Stoneham Substance Abuse Coalition and other organizations fighting the opioid crisis.

Service Project Addressing Hunger A Success!

In place of our weekly meeting, our club participated in the Multi-Club Food Packaging event at the Wakefield Sheraton on October 25. Rotarians from nine District 7930 clubs packaged more than 16,000 meals that were distributed to local food pantries, elder services and veterans services, including the Bread of Life in Malden. Our Club donated the meals after their coordinator addressed us at a recent meeting. Craig delivered the meals to the Bread of Life after the packaging event. It was a wonderful day of fellowship and service for our district. Hopefully we will have many more opportunities to serve as we and our fellow clubs address our district's Hunger and Homelessness Initiative.

Thank you for serving humanity as a member of Rotary.
Swing for Scholarships 2016 Recap

Swing for Scholarships was a success!

On Saturday, September 24, the Stoneham Rotary Club held our second annual Swing for Scholarships at Hago Harrington’s on Main Street in Stoneham. Foursomes made up of Rotarians, sponsors, friends, and family played the 18 holes of Hago Harrington’s challenging course. Contrary to rumors, my score did NOT climb into the mid-60s. Except that yes, it did.

Click here to see the photos from the event.

We especially would like to thank our title sponsor, StonehamBank and our hosts Lynn Strazzere and the rest of the folks at Hago Harrington’s for funding and hosting an incredibly fun event.

We thank all of the Rotarians who helped by serving on the event committee, led by Chair Christine Murphy. Amy Palmerino, Craig Celli, Anthony Guardia (on loan from the Wakefield Rotary), Adam Rodgers, and Ralph Barile all served on the event committee. Special thanks to Christine’s husband Chris Murphy for all of his help in putting on the event. Several attendees encouraged Chris to continue to rock the draped raffle tickets look. If anyone has a photo of the look, please post it on our Facebook page. Your public image chairman failed in his duty to get a shot of that.

We thank the following companies and individuals for their assistance in making the event a success.
